Mick,
Hope all is well. Here is the latest on my advocacy efforts. As you know the American Cancer Society has been tracking my experience. I was interviewed today by Jill Courtney / American Cancer Society, Senior Specialist, Division Media Advocacy, Houston, Tx. Jill arrived in town last night and would like me to be the ACS spokesperson Thursday, 19 March at our State Capital. This is in direct support of "A Day At The Capital" for CRC awareness. I will be at the Capital all day to share my story, the importance of CRC awareness and early detection.

What an honor!

Updates will be provided as they become available.
Regards,

Daniel

10th September 2014

Hawaii just made United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) history! I have just been advised by the secretaries of the Governor and Honolulu Mayor they will both recognize Ostomy Awareness Day! The request was made 12PM Hawaii time, Tuesday, 9 September and was approved by 3PM Hawaii time the same day! According to the UOAA, Hawaii is the first state this year to have confirmation a proclamation will be provided by a Governor and a Mayor. Ostomy Awareness Day is Saturday, 4 October, 2014.

I will be requesting the presentation of the proclamations to take place at the State Capital Ceremonial Room duriong the last week of September. Also, I have requested Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz and Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa to support this campaign. I am currenlty pending their acceptance.

19th September 2014

On behalf of the United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) I submitted a request to the Hawaii Governor and Honolulu Mayor to proclaim Ostomy Awareness Day in Hawaii for Saturday, 4 October, 2014.

I received a call from the office of the Mayor of Honolulu this morning. The Mayor will proclaim Ostomy Awareness Day in Hawaii, Saturday, 4 October, 2014. However, they regret to report due to his busy schedule a ceremony is not feasible!

Last week the Governor's office informed me he will sign a proclamation for this campaign. His schedule is also unable to support a ceremony!

It is my understanding this is the first time Hawaii has proclaimed Ostomy Awareness Day. Proclamation Document in PDF Format
